With the recent change in the standings, Auburn University knows all too well that there is still work to be done. Darrel High, Auburn University’s coach said, “Well, even though there is a long way to go in the points standings for this prestigious award, this gives our team more confidence moving ahead. Auburn University’s Bass Team will continue to work hard at staying on top as we know how strong the competition is at the collegiate level and we will have our best anglers competing throughout the remainder of the season.” Coach High continued saying, “Our strategy involves targeting the qualifying events and looking at the best way to budget these events across the country so we can maintain our standings. The team is really focused this season and we have great leadership that will plan with me on strategies that will hopefully get us to our goal of Cabela’s School Of The Year!”

Arkansas Tech University’s bass team certainly made some waves by competing in two of the first three events of 2017. “Right now, the team is really happy about being in 2nd place at the moment in the Cabela’s School of the Year standings. Being that, we still know there is more work to be done to try and move into 1st,” commented TJ Tucker, Arkansas Tech University bass club member. “As far as strategy moving forward, we are still going to go into each event like we have the past semester. We look at each tournament as another tournament to prove ourselves and show that ATU is still a team to watch.”

Rounding out the top three is the familiar face of Murray State University. Ryan Kirkpatrick, President of the Murray State bass team said, “The Murray State Bass Anglers are very excited to get the spring semester started and begin fishing. We can only hope that the spring will be as good for us as the fall was, winning four college tournaments in a row.” He continued by saying “Being one of the top five teams in the nation for the past four consecutive years, we know what it takes to win School of the Year. We are going to travel to as many tournaments as possible this spring in hopes of performing well at all of them. Winning School of the Year is our yearly goal each year and the fact that Murray State has never won that title, only makes us that much more motivated.”

Most of the season’s points will be earned in the four Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series double points events, meaning that each school’s top two teams will be able to earn points for their team, as opposed to just one team; however, coming up February 25-26, Murray State will host their Spring Invitational which will be counted towards the Cabela’s School of the Year race. “This is really when we see a lot of teams shoot from the lower ranks of the Cabela’s School of the Year rankings up to the top,” said Wade Middleton, Director of the Association of Collegiate Anglers and President of CarecoTV. “We get to see a lot of great involvement from schools that host sanctioned events and we also get to see a ton of new and returning schools fish in the Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series events to compete for ultimate goal of the Cabela’s School of the Year title.”
