5TH Place – Murray State University

SAN ANTONIO, TX (5/18/2020) – We’re now entering rarefied air in the race for Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia, the Top 5.  The first team to be highlighted this week is 5th ranked Murray State University.  Murray State has accumulated a total of 10,540 points this season and is within striking distance of 1st place entering the final event.

The Top 5 is a regular place in the standings for Murray State.  Over the course of the last seven seasons, the school has finished in the Top 5 six times.  2015 was their best season as they finished 2nd place overall.  Murray consistently places high up in the School of the Year standings but has never capped a season off with a SOY title.

“We are very happy to be where we are, but like every other team out there, we will always strive to be in the number one spot,” said Jacob Autry, a member of the Murray State fishing team.  “With the amount of talent that makes up college bass fishing today, we all feel very blessed and thankful to be ranked within the Top 5 in the nation!”

The 2019-2020 season again proves how strong of a team Murray State has.  At the three major Association of Collegiate Anglers events this season, the team from Murray, KY earned a total of 4,520 points.  Their best event came on their home waters of Kentucky Lake at the Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley.  The team tallied 1,850 of a maximum 1,995 points available.

Following a lengthy delay in tournament fishing, Autry is ready to get back to action at Pickwick Lake in Florence, AL.  “I’d say the things I’m most looking forward to at the Championship is getting back to tournament fishing, meeting back up with friends, and catching a bunch of Pickwick Lake bass!”

Murray State’s home lake, Kentucky Lake, is also located on the Tennessee Rive like Pickwick.  Though the two bodies of water aren’t identical, they share similar characteristics that this river system is known for.  Ledge fishing is one of those similarities.  Being used to offshore fishing back home, Murray State is very comfortable out on Pickwick Lake.  Look for Murray to finish off the 2019-2020 season with a great showing at the 2020 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops.
