Carson-Newman remains in 2nd, University of North Alabama moves up to 3rd

SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 7, 2024) – Exactly one month remains in the race for 2023-24 Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.  Two major double points tournaments, as well as the triple points Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops, remain on the schedule.  Hundreds of college bass fishing teams from across the country are vying for valuable points to finish as high up in the final end of season National Rankings as possible.

The University of Montevallo, three-time defending title winner of the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia, extends its 1st place lead with a season total of 33,605 points.  Carson-Newman University remains in 2nd, the University of North Alabama moves up two places to be ranked 3rd.

In the previous update, Montevallo had a lead of 1,940 points over 2nd ranked Carson-Newman.  Following the MLF College Series event at Lake Guntersville, as well as the Alabama BASS State Qualifier, Montevallo now leads by more than 4,400 points.  Montevallo placed two teams in the Top 10 at Lake Guntersville to earn 2,370 points. Logan Plueger & Charlie Wright finished in 6th, and Nicholas Dumke & Easton Fothergill placed 9th.  This marks the largest lead that Montevallo has had in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia this season.

Carson-Newman did not earn any points in the latest update, as they hold firm in 2nd place for college fishing’s only all-encompassing National Rankings system.  Though they did compete at Lake Guntersville, the team had already earned points at the maximum number of MLF events for this season.

The University of North Alabama makes one of the biggest moves up in the standings during this points update.  Previously ranked 5th, UNA is now ranked 3rd in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.  Team members Smith McGregor & Preston Kolsick won the AL BASS State Qualifier, and UNA’s two highest-finishing teams at the MLF College Series event on Lake Guntersville placed 5th & 8th.  Dylan Nutt & Carter Nutt finished in 5th, and Nathan Reynolds & Banks Shaw took 8th.  Those two Top 10 finishes earned the team a total of 2,390 points, which tied them with Auburn for earning the most points of any school to compete at Lake Guntersville.

Registration for the triple points Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops will close on Wednesday, May 8th at 6:00 PM (CT).  Schools ranked in the Top 25 for this points update to the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia will qualify to send a maximum of four boats to compete at Pickwick Lake.  Teams can only earn additional spots through top finishes at ACA events or if they are a past Champion from the last three years.

The next major double points tournament on the qualifying events schedule will be the Bassmaster College Series at Sam Rayburn.  Following that tournament, the ACA will update the points standings leading into the triple points Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops.  There is still room for teams to move up in the standings, as several schools, including top ranked Montevallo, have already maxed out on the points they can earn at both MLF and BASS events.  View the points eligible events schedule here.
