Montevallo Regains Number One Ranking in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia

Carson-Newman falls to 2nd, Campbellsville University holds on to 3rd

SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 25, 2024) – The race for the 2023-24 Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia is entering the stretch run.  Just over one month remains until the standings are finalized for the year, and only a few more major events are left on the schedule.  Hundreds of teams from all across the country are vying for valuable points that will help them to finish as high up as possible in college fishing’s only all-encompassing National Rankings system.

The latest update to the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia is highlighted by results from the most recent Bassmaster College Series event on Kentucky Lake.

The University of Montevallo takes over the top spot, as their two highest-finishing teams placed 1st and 2nd overall at Kentucky Lake.  Carson-Newman University did not compete in the tournament, dropping them back to 2nd, and Campbellsville University maintains its 3rd place ranking.

Following the Hartwell Slam, Montevallo was ranked 2nd in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.  At the Bassmaster College Series event on Kentucky Lake, Montevallo’s top two finishing teams placed 1st and 2nd overall.  By securing the maximum number of points possible, Montevallo earned the most points of any team to compete at Kentucky Lake.  Blair Erickson & Jackson Pontius won the tournament with a total weight of 42 pounds 1 ounce.  Fellow teammates  Easton Fothergill & Nick Dumke took 2nd with 41 pounds 5 ounces.  Those two top finishes earned Montevallo a total of 2,490 points.  These valuable points helped Montevallo to attain a more than 1,900 point lead over Carson-Newman University.

The top two teams in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia have now fished the same number of major double points tournaments during the 2023-24 season.  With both teams now essentially having competed in the same number of tournaments, Montevallo holds the edge over its closest challenger.

Rounding out the Top 3 is Campbellsville University.  Prior to the Kentucky Lake tournament, Campbellsville had already earned points at three Bassmaster College Series events.  Therefore, they did not receive any points in the latest update.
