JP Kimbrough is a senior at Louisiana State University – Shreveport majoring in Business Administration and is a member of the 2017 Team Cabela’s.   JP has been one of the top anglers in collegiate fishing for many years and is striving to one day fish professionally. Let us take a look at JP Kimbrough and learn a little more about him.

  1. When and how did you start fishing?

I started fishing competitively when I was about 12 years old. I went to the Bassmaster Classic with my dad when I was 12, once I saw the weigh-in I knew what I wanted to do in life.

  1. Why did you get into collegiate fishing?

Collegiate fishing offers you the ability to go to school and earn a degree while still competing at an extremely high level against the best college anglers in the country. With me wanting to compete professionally one day the decision to go the college route was easy.

  1. Most memorable tournament?

My most memorable tournament was probably the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Cabela’s in 2016 where I took second place.

  1. Favorite technique?

Flipping submerged milfoil or anything to do with smallmouth.

  1. Where is your favorite place to fish?

Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota where I guide during the summer.

  1. What do you plan to do after college?

My plan after college is to guide full time and hopefully be able to make the Bassmaster Elite Series.

  1. Most influential person in your life?

I can’t name one person in particular. There have been a lot of people that have mentored me throughout the years and taught me the ins and outs of not just fishing but also the fishing industry. Without the knowledge I’ve gained from those people and the advice they’ve given me, I know I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am right now.

  1. Is there anyone you would like to thank for success?

I would really like to thank my parents first and foremost, without their help I wouldn’t be able to pursue my dreams. I’d like to also thank LSUS for allowing me to represent them and the support they give to the fishing team. Lastly, I’d like to thank all of my sponsors, they have shown nothing but support for me and my success throughout my career and I can’t thank them enough for it.
