The Cabela’s Collegiate Big Bass Bash Presented by Berkley Pays Big and Little

By Cody Levy

In a big bass event, the goal is to weigh in the biggest fish to earn the top prize in the hourly and overall big bass weigh in. Throughout the 2015 Cabela’s Collegiate Big Bass Bash Presented by Berkley, it took an average of seven pounds to win one of the eight hourly weigh ins and cash the biggest check for that hour; however, it wasn’t just the big bass that got a payout throughout the event.

Murray State University Bass Angler and Team Sponsor Relations Manager of the club, Dominick Schenewerk knows firsthand on how the payouts at the Cabela’s Collegiate Big Bass Bash Presented by Berkley cover more than just the giants of the event. Shenewerk managed to weigh in the smallest fish of the event at 1.91lbs which earned the angler an Abu Garcia Veritas Rod, Revo SX reel and a Berkley lure pack.

“Overall it was an awesome experience to fish the Big Bass Bash event. Although my partner and I didn’t necessarily slay ‘em those two days, we did manage to catch some good fish and I was able to cash in on the smallest fish brought to the scales at the event,” said Shenewerk.

Shenewerk added that “the payouts are incredible. The prizes and payouts are just awesome for all the anglers and the ACA hosts their events where you walk up and you are center stage of everything. They treat us like we’re pros from the pretournament meeting, throughout the event, even down to all the reporting that goes on after the event.”

Shenewerk looks forward to the Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series season opener on Kentucky Lake again this year, with hopes of catching bigger fish, but is excited to compete regardless of the payout.

“Even though we live right down the road, this event was definitely worth it, I was able to get an award for the smallest fish, but even if I didn’t catch any bass it was still so worth it to be a part of the Big Bass Bash and I can’t wait to get back at it again this year,” said Shenewerk.
