Big Bass Bash Bolsters Adrian’s Lead

Adrian College Continues to lead School of the Year Race as McKendree University and Murray State University Round Out Top 3

Last weekend the Association of Collegiate Anglers hosted the first event of the 2019-2020 season.  The Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley took place at Kentucky Lake on October 4th & 5th.  1,000 points were on the line for first place, and each school’s highest two finishing anglers inside the top 100 earned points.  Adrian College gained a total of 1,850 points which allowed them to maintain their claim to 1st place in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.

As expected, the first ACA event of the year proved to be crucial in shaking up the School of the Year standings.  Nine of the top 10 schools in the rankings competed in the Big Bass Bash.  Each of those teams earned over 1,200 points towards their totals for the year.  This just goes to show that double points events present a very valuable opportunity for teams to earn a great quantity of points. With the AFTCO Open coming up shortly, we can expect another shakeup in the standings soon.

Leading up to the first ACA event of the year, Adrian College was dead set on maintaining, or even extending their lead.  Coming out of the Big Bass Bash, they accomplished just that.  Team members weighed in several fish over three and a half pounds throughout competition.  Senior team member Hunter Schneider took home Overall Big Bass honors with 5.16 pounds.  That victory has him fired up and excited about the prospects for his team winning the School of the Year title.  “It just says a lot about the program.  We were 1,500 points ahead or so before this tournament.  We’re not letting off the gas, we’re just getting started,” said Schneider.

There were a lot of movers and shakers following the 2019 Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley.  Bryan College earned the most points of any one school present at Paris, TN and Kentucky Lake.  They earned 1,970 points to move up into 5th place overall.  Carson-Newman University made the biggest jump of any team to get into the top 25.  Ranked 66th entering last week, they earned 1,530 points and now sit in 18th overall.

Here are teams that were outside of the top 25 entering the Big Bass Bash, but are now ranked inside the top 25:

7) University of Tennessee: Previously 27th

9) Campbellsville University: Previously 48th

12) Drury University: Previously 34th

17) Blue Mountain College: Previously 39th

18) Carson-Newman University: Previously 66th

24) Tennessee Tech University: Previously 33rd

The next event on the Bass Pro Shops Collegiate Bass Fishing Series is the AFTCO Collegiate Bass Open on Lake Dardanelle from October 26th through the 27th.  That will be the next opportunity for teams to earn double points towards the chase for Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.
