VIRGINIA TECH WRAPS IT UP!

When most people think of a boat wrap, they think of professional anglers and brand new, $50,000 bass rigs. The Bass Fishing Team at Virginia Tech is trying to change that perception.
The Virginia Lottery approached the team at the end of 2008 and inquired about the possibility of creating a partnership that would provide sponsorship for the 2009 school year. Both parties involved were committed to the idea, and after considering various thoughts, the option of wrapping a boat became a sincere interest.
Possibilities were contemplated and the decision was made to go ahead and do something that may never have been done before-by anybody! The team decided to wrap a 24 year old, 1985 Ranger boat. Creative Edge Designs in Lynchburg, Virginia agreed to produce a custom wrap for half of the price of a normal boat wrap. The vision for the design was created and they were on their way.
Wrapped boats are decked out with sponsor graphics and provide a certain amount of protection for the shell of the boat throughout the tournament season. There are a few issues associated with wrapping a boat that many consider a classic. The gel coat was practically shot and peeling off quickly. The wrap went on as planned but with special care given to the application process. Now that it is finished, the team couldn't be happier.
Now, when people think about boat wraps, they might think twice. They might think about collegiate anglers and the potential for company advertisement and promotion at this level. They might also consider that the boat doesn't have to be brand new. Collegiate anglers are driven by the opportunity to compete, regardless of the boat they use. As more businesses recognize this promotional opportunity, there is no doubt that collegiate teams will be competing in wrapped boats all over the country.
On behalf of The Virginia Lottery, Angler's Choice Marine, and Creative Edge Design, the Bass Fishing Team at Virginia Tech would like to send out a huge thank you for making this happen. In addition, we would like to thank all of our sponsors for continuing to support our team throughout the 2009 fishing season. In trying economic times, we realize how difficult it can be to continue to support smaller organizations at the non-professional level and every bit of support goes a long way.
