UAB BEATS RECORD SIZE FIELD
TO CLAIM SCBFS TITLE AT LAKE GUNTERSVILLE

110 collegiate anglers, representing 21 schools from across the Southeast, converged on Lake Guntersville, AL February 20-21 to compete in the second qualifying event of the 2009 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series. This event, hosted by Auburn University, is the largest regional collegiate bass tournament held to date.
Based on the results of the FLW Tour event held the week prior to this tournament, many of the competitors correctly determined that the most productive pattern would involve fishing Rat L Traps in hydrilla weed beds located in the north end of the lake.
On Friday, there were several bass over 5 pounds weighed in and Alabama claimed big bass honors with a 7.11 pound largemouth. University of Alabama-Birmingham's combined team weight for 4 boats was over 87 pounds on Friday alone.
Saturday ushered in improving pre-front weather conditions and the big bass bit even better. University of North Alabama smashed Friday's big bass weight with a 9.01 pound lunker!
"There is no way I can describe to you the number of big bass weighed in or the excitement that these anglers expressed catching such great quality fish. It was one heck of an event!" stated Jann Swaim, Auburn University Bass Sports Club Director.
The final qualifying event of the 2009 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series will be held at Lake Wheeler, AL March 13-14.
