SCBFS KICKS OFF 2009 SEASON AT
NEELY-HENRY

The Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series (SCBFS) hosted by Auburn University Bass Sports Club, held its first event of the year on Lake Neely-Henry in Gadsden, Alabama on January 23 & 24. The event drew the interest of 15 schools and 68 collegiate anglers to test their fishing skills against the tough conditions offered up by Lake Neely Henry.

Fast current and muddy, cold water made the bite slow at best throughout most of the lake. However, several anglers including the top 3 teams were able to find clear water in the back of Canoe Creek. Richard Peek & JT Murphy of Auburn University took top honors at the event with a total weight of26.35 pounds. 2nd place went to University of North Alabama's Andrew Bacon & Robb Young with 18.15 pounds while 3rd place was claimed by Clay Messer & Sam Rochell, also representing Auburn University. The top teams caught their bass using black and blue jigs in 5 to 15 feet of water. Auburn & Alabama are tied for the lead in the head-to-head match results with 2 wins each.

The next SCBFS event is scheduled for February 20-21 - Lake Guntersville - Guntersville, Alabama.  For more information, check out http://www.collegiatebasschampionship.com/VA-Tech-Boat-Wrap.html.
