"College bass fishing is one of the most exciting things that I've seen come along for fishing in years," said Robert Shamblin, director of marketing for Power-Pole. That's quite a statement coming from a guy who works for a company that makes one of the most exciting fishing boating accessories ever - the Power-Pole anchor system - and he didn't stop with that comment.

"I saw some of the collegiate bass championship television series earlier this year and was just amazed by the emotion and dedication these anglers have for the sport. I thought it was so cool how they were into it and I knew right then it was something Power-Pole needed to get behind. So, for this 2008 championship, we're involved and proud of it."

With his marketing responsibilities for Power-Pole, Shamblin talks to all walks of anglers on a daily basis. That's because anyone who fishes from a boat can appreciate the special hydraulic anchoring system made by J.L. Marine Systems, Inc. of Tampa, Fla. The Power-Pole, laboratory tested and featuring patented technology, somewhat resembles the stinger tail of a scorpion both in form and function. When not in use, it is raised up and out of the way against the boat's transom. When it's time for action, down it goes, operated remotely by the user. The way it works is by planting its spike-end underwater and into the bottom in water up to six feet deep. Once in place, the boat stays positioned right there, even under extreme wind and current conditions. With the push of a button, the anchor is raised and the boat is ready to move again. No hassle, no tangled anchor lines and no anchor bouncing around in the bottom of the boat.

Although originally designed for saltwater flats anglers who spend most of their fishing time in skinny water, the Power-Pole has become extremely popular with bass anglers too. Sure, promoting their products to the fast growing college angler market is one of the reasons the company has partnered with the BoatU.S. National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship, but the bigger reason is because the company's management believes it's the right thing to do.

"Talk about a pure love for fishing... these kids have it," Shamblin continued. "Just like all of us, they have busy lives. But these guys and girls aren't waiting for time to go fishing, they're making time. Whether after class, work or some other activity, they're getting some time on the water. That's just cool. We need to support their passion for fishing because they are the future of the sport."
