Five college bass teams decided for championship day
LEWISVILLE, Texas (Sept. 28, 2007) The field of 83 teams was pared to only five today for participation in Saturdays final round of the BoatU.S. National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship being held this week on Lake Lewisville. Advancing are the Louisiana Tech team of Chase Cates and Blake Snow, University of Wisconsin Madisons Derek and Drew Frederixon, the Western Kentucky team of Adam Hock and Nathan Baum, Texas A&Ms Trevor Knight and Justin Rackley, and the University of Alabamas Rusty Jones and Daniel Statum.
The Louisiana Tech team finished on top after the two days of competition with 23.58 pounds, while the Alabama team filled the fifth spot with 18.20 pounds. But whether first or fifth in the current standings doesnt matter now because all previous weights will be zeroed to begin the third and last day of the championship event.
Last years champions, a North Carolina State team with returning member Alex Freeman, was unable to hold yesterdays top five standings with a catch of only two keeper bass today and didnt make the cut. And day one leader, University of Montevallo (Ala.), fell to 15th place today.
The five teams fishing in the final round will compete from special edition 40th anniversary Ranger Z-21 boats identically rigged with Yamaha outboards, Garmin electronics and Minn Kota trolling motors. All other rules remain the same. Each team is allowed to weigh-in up to five bass that are at least 14-inches in length. The team with the heaviest weight for the day will be declared the 2007 BoatU.S. National Collegiate Bass Fishing Champions.
Saturdays weigh-in will again be held at Sneaky Petes Marina on Lake Lewisville, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
